The History Of Beer Pong And What It Means Today

The history of beer pong supposedly started in the 1950s, but some dispute that and say that the game began in the 1980s.

Either way, it doesn’t seem to be etched in stone of when it started.  The original name for beer pong was “Beirut”.

When it was the former, the game was played without the paddles.

Another reason why some people dubbed it as “Beirut” was because when the game out without the paddles, some students supposedly went back in time to the 1970s.

They said that throwing the balls in the cups was a reminder of the wars in East and West Beirut.

Even with that, when it was known as Beirut, people quickly got a hold of it and caught on to play.

Nowadays people just refer to it as beer pong.  Some people however, still refer to it as the former, which is also acceptable.  Nowadays, it easier for a lot of people to refer to it as Beer Pong.

When people that are familiar with the game think about beer pong, they think about how it can be considered as a combination of several sports:

· Bowling – the setup of the cups is such that they are positioned like bowling pins at a bowling alley.

· Basketball – when you try to get the ball in one of the cups; this is just like trying to get the basketball in the hoop at a game.

· Tennis – When you hit the ball with a paddle to get it to the other side; in tennis, you use a racket to hit the tennis ball to the other side.

More people started to get interested in beer pong.  In fact, some of the college students decided to create a beer pong anthem.  That’s how passionate they had gotten about it.  Nowadays, you can find many samples of the beer pong anthem online at places like You Tube and other video websites.

Another thing about the history of beer pong was that it was known that some college students liked to drink as one of their favorite pastimes.  So, when beer pong evolved, they put beer in the cups to justify playing the game and drinking.

As with any student drinking on campus, there is always the risk that one might get overly stoned or even ill from alcohol poisoning.  Some college campuses have always had drinking games.  Beer pong just happens to be one of the games that is currently evolving.

In addition to that, college students are now setting up their own tournaments.  Yes, these are real tournaments where you compete to win a monetary prize.

As with anything else, the guys felt a need to show off and part of doing that was getting drunk while playing beer pong.  Even when the guys didn’t have ping pong paddles to hit the ball with, they improvised and used their hand to score with the ball.

Even now, today’s college students have become so innovative that drinking alcohol and playing beer pong are now hand in hand.
